Transitioning to CLASSIC

As Harmony Software approaches its end of life (EOL), it’s important to assess your next steps for accessing and managing patient data and images. Jazz Imaging offers three options for transferring your patient information and images to CLASSIC, depending on your existing imaging software.

For Jazz Harmony users, a full database conversion may not make sense for your practice due to the complexity and required downtime.

  • If your primary goal is to maintain access to patient images for later reference, Jazz Imaging provides a simple, effective solution to transitioning to Classic—with minimal interruption to your workflow. See How to View JPG Images in Classic for more details.

Alternatively, patients can be transferred from Harmony to Classic (Option 1) and images can be accessed using Apteryx’s standalone viewer application (Option 2)

  • If your practice requires full control of your imaging database—including access to original, full-resolution images directly within Classic—then a full database conversion may be the right choice for your practice’s needs.

For practices is transitioning from another imaging software, Jazz Imaging also offers free Patient Information Transfer to get you started.

Use the Classic Converter Tool to transfer patient details (names, IDs, birthdates, etc.) from your existing imaging software into Classic.

  • Dentrix

How to Import Patient Information to Classic

This process typically takes 10-15 minutes from when the transfer starts, depending on how many patients are moved over.

  1. Backup your data before starting the transfer.

  2. Open Windows File Explorer and run the Classic Converter Tool (located in the Jazz Classic folder).

  3. Select your Imaging Software from the dropdown list.

  4. Choose the file path to your Patient Information folder for your existing imaging software.

  5. Click Transfer to begin the import.

If you’re using Jazz Harmony or Apteryx XV4, you can import JPG images for all patients into Classic without having to migrate your entire database. Simply export your images from your existing software, and our Jazz Support team will assist you with importing the images into Classic.

Alternatively, you can view the images in Apteryx’s standalone image viewer—XVQuickView.

Highlights:

  • Maintains access to patient images

  • Minimal downtime

  • Full resolution images not available

  • Recommended for most practices

Method 1 - View JPGs in Classic (Recommended)

  • Images are imported into Jazz Classic as 8-bit JPGs

  • Patients transferred simultaneously

  • Exams are available in Classic only as an overview image

  • Individual images within an exam are not viewable with this method

  • A Jazz Support Representative will initiate the import using our proprietary import tool

How to View JPG Images in Classic

This method imports 8-bit JPG images and single Exam Overview images to Classic. Individual images within exams are not imported into Classic, meaning exams are viewable as a single high quality exam overview image.

  1. Contact Jazz Support before importing images to Classic.

  2. In Harmony or XV4, navigate to:

Patients > Patient Options > Create a Patient CD, DVD, or Disk for Multiple Patients.

  1. Check the box labeled Export Images to JPG and begin the export.
  2. A Jazz Support representative will remotely access your system to perform the import using our proprietary import tool.

This method typically takes about 10 hours total to export and import the images, depending on how many images you have.

To minimize disruption to your workflow, the import can be split into multiple smaller sessions.

Method 2 - Add XVQuickView to Current Patient Folders

  • The patient data folder is maintained from Harmony

  • Images are stored in folders by patient name

  • Copy the XVQuickView application into each patient folder to see the images

How to View Images with XVQuickView

  1. Copy the XVQuickView.exe file and paste it to your Desktop to access later.

  2. Navigate to your patient data folders in Windows File Explorer.

  3. Paste the XVQuickView.exe file into the patient folders where you want to view images.

  4. Open the QuickView file pasted in the folder to view those images.

  5. Whenever you want to view a patient image, copy the XVQuickView.exe file on your desktop and paste it in the patient’s folder. The XVQuickView needs to exist in the patient’s folder to view images.

This method does not require images to be exported. However, the XVQuickView application must be placed inside each patient folder to view the images.

Method 3 - Export Images with Embedded XVQuickView Access

  • Images are exported from existing imaging software

  • Images are saved to folders by patient name

  • Use XVQuickView to view the images

  • No copy and pasting necessary

  • Backing up images typically takes 4 to 5 hour

How to Export Patient Images with XVQuickView Included

  1. In Jazz Harmony, navigate to:

Patients > Patient Options > Create a Patient CD, DVD or Disk for Multiple Patients.

  2. Check the box labeled Export to JPG.

  3. Check the box to include XVQuickView in the patient folder.

  4. Click Export to backup the images.

  5. When the export is done, open a patient folder. Right click an image and choose Open with > XVQuickView to view the image.

This method typically takes about 4-5 to export the images from your existing imaging software, depending on how many images are exported.

Full Database Conversions are available for Jazz Harmony users only.

What to Expect:

  • Transfers all patient data and images

  • Access to full resolution images inside Classic

  • Images cannot be captured in Harmony for at least one week during conversion

  • Total process takes about two weeks

  • Recommended for practices that need full data control

Due to the complexity involved with this method, this option is not recommended for most practices. Please contact Jazz Support for more details and to determine whether this option is right for your practice.
